One popular form of brick wall masonry is that of brick veneers. The reason people are looking at brick veneers as a viable option for their homes is that they look very pleasing aesthetically and they’re also resistant to fire. Those worried about the threat of fires should definitely look more into brick veneers. The installation will need to be done by brick wall masons. They well assess your home and come up with a plan that encompasses almost all aspects of the installation so you can know what you’re getting into and agree to it if you find it suitable.
Installation of Brick Veneers by Brick Wall Masons
Brick wall masons will begin by clearing the surface to which the brick veneers will be attached. Any dirt, oil, plaster, or paint needs to be removed or else the installation of brick veneers will be negatively impacted.
Veneers can’t simply be installed on a raw surface. Your mason will install bricks made of concrete and flashings first so they can support the veneers. The concrete bricks are installed first then the flashings before the veneers are added. The flashing is a little tricky to install as one of its edges, particularly the outer one, needs to be turned down over the ledge of the foundation. On the other hand, the inner edge should cover the sheathing.
The veneers can then be leveled over several courses. If we had to select one of the courses as more important than others, it would be the first one. The first course will have a significant impact on all others that follow. If it’s not level or stable then all other courses won’t be level and stable.
Next, bricks are installed by applying adhesive substances to them and holding them firmly against the wall for several seconds. Mortar is applied between them and weep holes are also added as they’re needed for adequate drainage.
The addition of brick veneers needs to be done so that all bricks are even. Different masons have different ways of doing this. Some rely on string while others use window sills. Either way, if you hire an experienced mason for the job then they’ll have a sure way of getting the brick veneers to be even.
Finally, brick veneers need to be firmly anchored. There are several materials that can be used to achieve this. Once the job is done, your mason will get rid of any additional unwanted mortar by scrubbing it away.
How good and sturdy your brick veneers look will depend on the experience and quality of the brick wall masons you hire.
